Cars can make all sorts of noises, especially when travelling on country roads, towing, or putting in long kilometres. But a new, persistent or worsening noise can be your vehicle’s way of telling you something needs attention. At Noel Burke Motor Repairs, we help drivers in Narrabri identify and repair unusual car noises before they lead to a breakdown, safety issue or more costly repair. Squealing or Screeching Brakes A high-pitched squeal when braking can be caused by worn brake pads, brake dust, moisture or a brake wear indicator contacting the disc. If the noise is ongoing, it is worth booking a brake inspection. A grinding noise is more urgent. This can mean the brake pads have worn down completely and metal parts are contacting the brake disc. Continuing to drive may reduce braking performance and damage other components. Clunking or Knocking Over Bumps Clunks, rattles or knocks when driving over potholes, corrugations or uneven roads can point to worn steering or suspension components. Common causes include worn shock absorbers, suspension bushes, ball joints or sway bar links. Suspension problems can affect handling, tyre wear and the vehicle’s ability to stay stable on the road. If your car feels less controlled or the noise is becoming more noticeable, arrange an inspection. Humming, Roaring or Rumbling While Driving A humming or droning sound that increases with road speed may be caused by uneven tyre wear, wheel bearings or a wheel alignment issue. Tyres with uneven tread wear can become noisy and reduce grip, while a worn wheel bearing may create a growling or rumbling noise that changes as you turn. Noel Burke Motor Repairs can inspect your tyres, suspension and wheel alignment to help find the cause. Clicking When Turning A repeated clicking sound when making tight turns, especially at lower speeds, can indicate a worn CV joint. CV joints transfer drive to the wheels while allowing them to turn and move with the suspension. Ignoring this sound can eventually lead to CV joint failure and leave your vehicle unable to drive. Early diagnosis can help avoid an inconvenient breakdown. Squealing or Chirping From Under the Bonnet A squeal, chirp or whine from the engine bay may be caused by a worn or loose drive belt, pulley or bearing. These noises can be more noticeable when starting the vehicle, accelerating or using the air conditioning. Because several engine components can produce similar sounds, it is best to have the vehicle assessed by a qualified mechanic rather than guessing at the cause. Rattling Underneath the Vehicle A rattle underneath your car may be as simple as a loose heat shield, bracket or exhaust component. However, it can also point to an issue that needs repair. If the noise is accompanied by a burning smell, reduced engine performance, vibration or a warning light, have your vehicle inspected as soon as possible. Hissing, Bubbling or Gurgling Noises Hissing or bubbling sounds can sometimes indicate a cooling system issue, such as low coolant, a leak or air in the system. If these noises occur with an overheating engine, steam, coolant smell or temperature warning light, pull over safely and avoid driving further until the vehicle can be checked. Cooling system faults can cause serious engine damage if left unattended. The team at Noel Burke Motor Repairs can inspect and repair cooling system concerns to help keep your vehicle dependable. Don’t Ignore New or Unusual Car Noises It is always worth listening to your vehicle. Book a professional inspection if a noise is new, getting louder, affects braking or steering, comes with a warning light, or changes how your car drives. Noel Burke Motor Repairs provides reliable diagnostics, servicing and repairs for all makes and models in Narrabri. From brakes, suspension and tyres to engine, cooling and auto electrical concerns, our experienced team can help identify the issue and get you safely back on the road. New Car Service in Narrabri

Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At Noel Burke Motor Repairs in Narrabri, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At Noel Burke Motor Repairs, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit Noel Burke Motor Repairs for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.
